Canon EOS RP gets a THUMBS DOWN

I so wanted to love this camera. It has all the bells and whistles mostly of my main camera the Canon EOS R. I wanted to have a second body on me for some crop photos like dragging the shutter, awesome wide angle dancefloor photos and more. Something that uses all the same lenses I use with the R such as the Canon 24-105 F4, the 24-70 f2.8, etc. This camera just isn't it. I talk about some of the major red flags for me.

The first has to be the fact that the memory card slot is down in the battery compartment which makes the future of battery grips with this camera a big question mark. There are a couple 3rd party options but ONLY ONE allows for access to the memory card and it looks hideous lol. Its also 3D printed, which tells you how they had to go about designing it.

The other two major drawbacks for me are a little less common reasons. One is that I believe the MENU button is too close to the viewfinder focus knob. This had me accidentally throwing the EVF out of focus and everything looking blurry in the viewfinder. Silly I know but imagine a Bride and Groom about to do their grand entrance and you look through the viewfinder and its blurry....the focus of the viewfinder itself is the last place you would think to adjust.

The last one involves WHERE the sensor is located on the EVF. It is located to the right of the viewfinder instead of below like on the EOS R. This means that when I shoot at a slight lower angle, my glasses would stop covering the entire sensor and it would auto-switch to the lcd screen....very annoying.

Almost ALL of the advantages of the EOS RP are based on simply being a mirrorless camera and NEW lol. The customization is awesome. Just having an EVF is cool. The wireless settings are great.

SO MUCH of this camera is good.....its just not specific to this camera. Where as the red flags ARE very unique the RP. It's how the body is designed that effects the usability for me :(
